Martin Barthel is Senior Director Verticals & eBay Kleinanzeigen at eBay in Germany. He is responsible for the further development of the German eBay marketplace with particular focus on the areas of Home & Garden, Electronics and eBay Motors. Additionally, he is also responsible for eBay Kleinanzeigen.
Martin Barthel joined eBay in November 2005, initially working in Corporate Development for eBay Germany. Shortly thereafter, he led the German Pricing team and was responsible for the launch of a completely new business model for commercial sellers as well as for the so-called “Volksauktion” for private sellers. That was followed by a move to Great Britain where he took on the role of leading Buyer Experience at eBay UK. In 2012, he resumed his work back at eBay Germany before starting his most recent responsibilities as Senior Director Verticals & eBay Kleinanzeigen.
Prior to joining eBay, Martin Barthel worked for the fashion brand Chanel as a strategic marketer from 1996 to 2001. Subsequent to this, he worked as a Management Consultant for the Boston Consulting Group for four years.
Martin Barthel studied economics at the EBS in Oestrich-Winkel and also at the ESCP-EAP in Paris, Oxford and Berlin. He currently lives in his hometown of Berlin together with his wife and two daughters.
